Code Computerlove is championing InnovateHer, a new initiative tackling inequality in tech

August 20, 2018

We're pleased to announce that we're supporting the Manchester launch of InnovateHer, an initiative which aims to encourage greater equality and diversity in technical roles.  InnovateHer is dedicated to giving girls aged between 12 and 16 the skills, self-belief and confidence to pursue a career in technology. The national initiative enables pupils to interact with leading employers and industry role models and learn new digital skills, and has already reached around 200 girls.

The InnovateHer team will be delivering the eight-week after-school programme from September across eight schools. Members of the Code team will be joining them to provide guidance and training to students. The other partners for the Manchester roll-out are Co-op Digital, Manchester City Council and Northcoders. InnovateHer's ultimate goal is to establish a national network of school-based programmes to tackle the digital skills gap, which is currently estimated to cost the UK economy £63 billion in lost GDP.
