How to make the most out of Talent Day

| by Joanna Spencer | what we're up to

Myself and my colleague Lisa – both MMU graduates – attended Manchester Digital’s Talent Day last year, where we nervously pottered around the hall, on the lookout for the companies we wanted to speak to.

We ambitiously hoped that this initial introduction to the digital world would eventually help us secure jobs – and it did! That first meeting with Siobhan (Planner) and Tony (Founder) really helped us out when it came to applying for roles at Code later that same year.

So, naturally, we’re real advocates of Manchester Digital’s Talent Day. With the latest events now just a matter of days away, we wanted to share a few tips on getting the most out of this amazing opportunity to network. Go along and who knows where it could take you…

1. Do your research

Take a look at the Manchester Digital website to find out which companies are going to be there. Think about who you want to speak to on the day, and then do some research on them.

2. What is it you want?

This is important to consider, as you need to know what it is you are asking for – are you after work experience or a full-time job, and is there a specific role you are looking for?

3. Be prepared

Bring along your CV, and think about what you want to say. This is an amazing opportunity to get in front of decision makers, so how are you going to sell yourself? Is there something you can do to make yourself memorable? Are there any specific questions you want to ask?

4. Follow up

If you’re given a business card or contact details at the event, then follow them up! Whether it’s sending an email or putting in a phone call, don’t let the opportunity slip away.

I will be there on the Code stand, so if you’re interested in finding out more about our graduate scheme, pop over and say ‘hello’ (we’re super friendly, promise!).
